Transcending Depression © Nathan Kaye 2016 A1: Depression, you will never defeat me, ‘Though you may sometimes beat me down, And you often mistreat me, You will never complete me. A2: Depression, You're like tinnitus ringing in my ears, Sometimes you are all I can hear, Sometimes you got me frozen in fear, But this is my life I can steer. A3: Depression, You prey upon the tired and meek, You turn a strong man to wired and weak, You are not what I desire or seek, Life is never so bleak. B: Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm A4: Depression, Your time has come to an end, My excuses for you I can no longer defend, You made me feel like I had no friends, You can’t break me because I can bend, You are the thing I transcend You are the thing I transcend. B: Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Transcending depression… Transcending depression…

Silence (Waves of Life) © Nathan Kaye 2002 Spoken word intro: We go through the waves of life. We go through the up waves. The good times. We go through the bad times. The down waves. Nothing lasts. The good times don’t last. The bad times don’t last. It’s the cycles of nature. Sometimes, when some of us are in those low waves, those low times, they can forget that the good times are coming back, like my friend Neil, my friend Pat. So I find it really important to say that we must communicate how we’re feeling inside. A problem shared is a problem halved…. Verse 1: Neil, my friend, What made you feel so bad that you had to make it end? Neil, my friend, What made you feel so sad that you couldn’t bend? Pre-chorus: Did you have to break? Did you have to break? Chorus: Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Lean on me, Lean on someone today. Verse 2: Neil, my friend, What message were you trying to send? Neil, my friend, What made you feel so bad? So sad. Pre-chorus: Did you have to break? Did you have to break? Chorus: Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Lean on me, Lean on someone today Pre-chorus: Did you have to break? Did you have to break? Chorus: Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Lean on me, Lean on someone today. Today. Today. Neil, my friend, we miss you. Kneel, my friend, before the altar of your mind.

Contemplation of Emotional Temperature (Too Cold) A 1: Too cold to listen, Too cold to share, Too cold to open up and let me know that you’re there, The pain hidden you, You’re heart is precious, let someone see, Hiding is lonely, Don’t you want to be, Finally free. A2: Too cold to notice, Too cold to feel, Colder than the winter wind, To let it reveal. Wounds tormented you, Your mind is gorgeous let someone in, No shame no sin, Time to begin, Please let me in. A 3: Pain hidden you, You’re heart is precious, let someone see, Hiding is lonely, Don’t you want to be, Finally free. Finally free. Finally free. Finally. Free. ©Nathan Kaye 2004

Don’t Be Afraid To Fall Verse 1 (a): You sit in your bedroom feeling so small, So hard just to get out ‘cause you are scared you might fall, But you fell didn’t you? You fell despite it all. Verse 1 (b): So you sat crying needing to call, Your phone whispered loneliness, And loneliness made a wall, And you fell didn’t you? You fell despite it all. Chorus: Oh, don’t be afraid, This feeling will change, It’s a choice you made, So now rearrange, Oh, don’t be afraid, Reach out to a friend, Life is like a wave, It’s not the end. Oh no, it’s not the end. Verse 2: You stand in the hallway, You stare at the door, You’re too scared to open it, You’re scared that you might hit the floor, But you fell didn’t you? You fell despite it all. Chorus: Oh, don’t be afraid, This feeling will change, It’s a choice you made, So now rearrange, Oh, don’t be afraid, Reach out to a friend, Life is like a wave, It’s not the end. Oh no, it’s not the end. Verse 3 (a): You feel like a failure, Self doubt in your veins, But your heart won’t fail you, It only heals the pain, But you’ll fall sometimes, You’ll fall despite that pain. Verse 3 (b): Looking for a way out, Self harm on your mind, But that’s just a cop out, No freedom there to find, And you’ll fall sometimes, You’ll fall and, you know, that’s just fine. Chorus: Oh, don’t be afraid, This feeling will change, It’s a choice you made, So now rearrange, Oh, don’t be afraid, Reach out to a friend, Life is like a wave, It’s not the end. Oh no, it’s not the end. “cause life’s like a wave… ©Nathan Kaye 2006

A Moment in Your Life Lyrics and music by Nathan Kaye Verse 1: Everybody thinks they’ve got the heaviest load, but nobody grows if they only focus on the load they are carrying, Everybody thinks they’ve got all the answers to everyone’s woes, Instead of focussing on the road they are travelling, Pre-chorus: Now hold your head up high Chorus: ‘Cause it’s your life, It’s just a moment in your life, Don’t focus on that strife, Just let go & you will see this too shall pass, And it’s your life, It’s just a moment in your life, Don’t let the moment define who you are, ‘Cause in truth, You are beautiful Verse 2: Sometimes we cry with everything except tears, From fatuous fears, A concatenation of things no longer serving us, Sometimes we love with nothing more than hope, But how can we cope, If we don’t propitiate the goddess within us… Pre-chorus: Now hold your head up high Chorus: ‘Cause it’s your life, It’s just a moment in your life, Don’t focus on that strife, Just let go & you will see this too shall pass, And it’s your life, It’s just a moment in your life, Don’t let the moment define who you are, ‘Cause in truth, You are beautiful Verse 3: Sometimes we love with nothing more than hope, But how can we cope, If we don’t nurture the child within us… Pre-chorus: Now hold your head up high Chorus: ‘Cause it’s your life, It’s just a moment in your life, Don’t focus on that strife, Just let go & you will see this too shall pass, And it’s your life, It’s just a moment in your life, Don’t let the moment define who you are, ‘Cause in truth, You are beautiful ©Nathan Kaye 2013

No Fate, But the Fate We Make Verse 1: It’s comfortable not to be wise, And calculate our lives with our brains, I flowed down the river with you, like a sailor chasing the spice, To discover our true origins, not to heed clichéd new-aged advice, Chorus: You were the vessel, your anchor was free, I was the sailor lost out at see, Searching for someone, and that someone was inside of me, (Don’t hesitate) The greatest of teachers will show you to bow, At the altar of reason and suffering somehow, But your truth was simple, and that’s all that know now, There is no fate, There is no fate, but the fate we make… Verse 2: It’s comfortable not to reach high, And calculate our days with our pain, I cling to the cloth with gnashed teeth, While you spin the whole world without strain, Chorus: You were the vessel, your anchor was free, I was the sailor lost out at see, Searching for someone, and that someone was inside of me, (Don’t hesitate) The greatest of teachers will show you to bow, At the altar of reason and suffering somehow, But your truth was simple, and that’s all that know now, There is no fate, There is no fate, but the fate we make… Bridge: Oh now, we took it too far, I feel lost, yet you know who you are , mate , There is no fate, but the fate we make… ©Nathan Kaye 2011

Rise Like a Phoenix Verse 1: It is now late afternoon, And the sun shines through the crystals that are hanging in her room, And she thinks she’s Joan of Arc, Still commanding all the gallant ones who never came to march. Pre-chorus: And she feeds you fruit from her deepest root, And you seem perplexed, but she shows you her context with it. Chorus: Cry like you mean it, Smile like you’ve seen it, Hope like you dream it, and rise like a phoenix. Verse 2: ‘Tween the eucalypt and her pride, Where the sons of the iron throne say she’ll never be defied, And the light and dark converge, She’s spread at the edge of the bed longing for you both to merge. Pre-chorus: And she feeds you fruit from her deepest root, And you seem perplexed, but she shows you her context with it. Chorus: Cry like you mean it, Smile like you’ve seen it, Hope like you dream it, and rise like a phoenix. Verse 2: Upon the quelling of the seas, There lies a land with contraband, With your truculence you’ll go and seize, When the Valkyries call your name, Just remember that there’s Freyja there with a solipsistic claim to your flame Pre-chorus: And she feeds you fruit from her deepest root, And you seem perplexed, but she shows you her context with it. Chorus: Cry like you mean it, Smile like you’ve seen it, Hope like you dream it, and rise like a phoenix. ©Nathan Kaye 2015

Be Silent and Listen To The Call A1: The inspiration that you seek is already inside of you, Be silent and listen to the call, Do not feel lonely, because the universe is inside of you, Be silent and listen to the call, But when I fall, B: I know I could be more and more and more and more and more More and more and more and more and more More and more and more and more and more Grateful… A2: All the love that you seek is already inside of you, Be silent and listen to the call, When you feel despair, remember life’s breath inside of you, Be silent and listen to the call, But when I fall, B: I know I could be more and more and more and more and more More and more and more and more and more More and more and more and more and more Grateful… C: So I stand here strong with all my brothers, And all my sisters and all my lovers, All the people who understand, that in order to survive we’ve got to be… Hand in hand we stand, but not with fists, We’ve got more things that we could resist, but I rather let go, surrender to life, Surrender to the beauty Great Spirit provides, Great Spirit is in your reflection, Pointing my compass in the right direction, In your eyes divinity, I’m really loving what I see, And what I see is me in you, And in everyone here too, That’s true vision, from third eye, open it up so you can… Inspire all with clarity, Support each other to breaking free, From the system that pins us down, Heed this call and hark this sound, This music will reverberate, Across the earth for a higher state, So grab this file and share it to all, Make this shit go viral so they all hear the call, Of this kind of clichéd hippy ideals, And I know sometimes it doesn’t seem real, But reality is what you create, And there is no fate, but what you Make a choice and make it now, Make it together and make it loud, Make it with positivity, And realise your divinity. I’m living with an attitude of gratitude. ©Nathan Kaye 2013

about

A collection of sapient, uplifting songs to raise funds for depression and suicide prevention.

"It’s really healing to laugh and it’s equally good to pause and reflect. It’s also good to stop and really listen, but afterwards, it’s imperative to dance your butt off and shake out your worries! I think a great live show should bring all those qualities and I’ve created an album, and included a bonus CD, “Stories & Jams,” that goes with it, that I feel accomplishes all those things."
