about

“This song was penned after a night of judging some people that I knew. In fact, I was singing it in my sleep & was awoken by my own voice actually singing out loud.
I got up, grabbed my guitar & watched the sun rise as the song wrote itself in a matter of minutes.”

We become what we practice most.
When we judge others we are practicing superciliousness & the end result is that we end up internally judging ourselves all the time.
Therefore, to bring others down is to ultimately bring ourselves down.

“It was a reminder to myself that whenever I point the finger at someone else, there are 3 fingers pointing back at me.”

Surprisingly, in the sonic creation of this track there are no synthesisers. Aside from the drums, bass & vocals, all those sounds are created by a lapsteel slide guitar put through a series of guitar fx pedals.

The groove was inspired by 90’s trip-hop, yet blended with a Ben Harper roots & Lenny Kravitz retro rock kinda vibe.
The result is the merging of seemingly contradicting forces, which is a reflection of the philosophical dichotomy of finding peace amidst the cacophony of social & self-judgement.

lyrics

When I think I meet a false heart, I judge them,
Judging what is wrong and what I think is right,
When I think I meet a false mind, I accuse them,
Of looking through eyes that have no sight.

But then I think to myself...

"Humble yourself my dear,
Humble yourself,
Don't you know you should have no fear,
So humble Yourself,
Think of your own actions before you go and accuse,
'cause when you sit in judgement it's only you who will lose."

When I think I meet a false man, I tell him,
But never to his face, just behind his back,
When I meet a righteous woman, I try to tear her down,
Not recognising she's got the things I lack,

But then I think to myself...

"Humble yourself my dear,
Humble yourself,
Don't you know you should have no fear,
So humble Yourself,
Think of your own actions before you go and accuse,
'cause when you sit in judgement it's only you who will lose."

Humble yourself,
Humble yourself,
Humble yourself...
